Overnight Vision Correction

Orthokeratology, commonly known as ortho-k, is a non-surgical vision correction method that uses specially designed gas-permeable contact lenses to reshape the cornea overnight. By these lenses while you sleep, individuals can achieve clear vision during the day without the need for glasses or traditional contact lenses. This innovative approach is particularly beneficial for those with myopia (nearsightedness) and can also help slow down the progression of my in children and teenagers. Ortho-k offers a convenient and effective solution for those freedom from corrective eyewear.

How it Works

The lenses are worn overnight and removed in the morning. They take advantage of the imprinting properties of RGP lenses. This process has been re-engineered to gently flatten the cornea and correct short-sightedness (Myopia). There are similarities to laser eye surgery (the flattening part), however ortho-k is fully reversible.

How long does it last

In most cases, patients will be advised to wear the lenses every night. The amount of time the correction lasts can vary, however, we typically would expect people to have legal driving vision for at least 72 hours after removing the lenses. By wearing the lenses every night we expect that the vision would be as good as possible for the whole day.

Other benefits

Even though not having to wear correction during the day is good enough there have also been multiple studies which show that ortho-k can impeded the progression of short-sightedness. This can be very useful for younger people who are experiencing rapid progression of their myopia.
